“First say to yourself what you would be;
and then do what you have to do.” ~Epictetus
Now that you’ve got a Social Media Plan for your Purpose and your Platform, what will you do on a daily, weekly, monthly & periodic basis to meet your social media marketing goals?
Remember, your Purpose is to connect with people who may be good prospects for you, and then get them to know, like and trust you by sharing your personality and your expertise consistently over time. In this way, you will build relationships that eventually turn into sales because people ultimately buy from people they know, like and trust.
Your Platform is set up so that whenever you post something on your blog it will syndicate out to your profiles. You can also set up integration between Facebook, Twitter & LinkedIn, and I highly recommend using an application called Hootsuite to manage all these.
So, now that you’ve got everything set up and ready to go, what do you actually do?
All that depends on your goals, the selection of profiles you set up in your Platform, and how much time you want to actually invest in Social Media Marketing. Here are is a high-level overview to start you off on the right foot:
- Make a plan to check your primary profiles (Facebook, Twitter & LinkedIn) on a daily basis. Weekly is the minimum for checking your profiles if you want to have a consistent presence there.
- You can set up your email notifications to alert you when someone wants to connect with you or sends you a message, and I highly recommend this if you’re not actively engaging on a daily or hourly basis.
- When you do log on, you want to check for new connections, private messages and conversations to contribute to. You also want to reach out and expand your network by looking at suggested connections, or even using some of the search features in each profile to find like-minded prospects who you can connect with.
- On a weekly basis you should be writing one or more blog posts. I also recommend using your webcam to shoot an informal video sharing what you know, what you think, or something interesting happening. Keep it short and entertaining. Two or three minutes at most!
I’ll be covering the daily, weekly, monthly Practice in far more detail in my soon to debut: The Ultimate Direct-Response Marketer’s Guide to Selling with Social Media, but if you want a head start, email me for a free 20-minute phone consultation and I’ll give you some phenomenal ideas on what sort of campaign you should be implementing.
